Charlie and I met on the first day of university nearly 30’years ago, never imagining where life would take us. Our careers couldn’t have been more different with me in TV production and Charlie in golf course construction. We built busy lives, lived in London and Manchester, had two great kids but found ourselves caught in that familiar rat race of long hours, too little time together and missing out on those precious family moments.
About eight years ago now we stumbled across Anglesey, having not visited since we were children and fell in love with this place. We bought a caravan here and spent every spare weekend on the island. Each Sunday evening, we’d leave with heavy hearts and eventually we realised this is where we were at our happiest. When our children were seven and nine they began to notice how much we were working, how often they were in clubs, with babysitters and how much we were missing. It was a huge wake up call to balance our time better. So in a moment of madness, we left behind the security of our careers and bought the property that would become Mount Pleasant Hideaway. Drawing on our combined skills in creativity, production, design and landscaping, we’ve poured our hearts into developing a space that’s peaceful, welcoming and we hope, a little bit special.
Over the years we’ve stayed in all sorts of unique places across the UK, taking inspiration from what worked and learning from what didn’t. As dog owners, we often found places where we couldn’t fully relax because there wasn’t enough safe space for our dogs to just be dogs. That’s been at the heart of what we’ve created, a place where people and their four-legged friends can switch off completely and enjoy the calm of the island. I therefore hope that you feel the same sense of peace and calm here that we did the very first time.
